Getting ahead of the game

Wow.  Long time no post.  Life hit me in the back of the head with a sledgehammer 2 months ago and I've been trying to get myself back together since then.  Needless to say all work in the studio stopped for that time, but I think everything is organized enough that I can try working consistantly again.  Not that I was ever consistant before but we'll just preted I was.  Haha.

This guy showed his face way back in this post and then shortly after his lack of face in this one.  I put his away for months because something about his positioning was bugging me and I couldn't figure it out.  Now with fresh eyes I finally worked out most of my issues with him and was able to make a good deal of progress on him.  He still has a long way to be finished but he can show his (new) face here again at least!

He looks funny from this angle.  That needs to be fixed.

And that's all for now.  He needs to dry a bit more and I need to get some better ref's for his face but so far I'm pretty pleased with how he's coming out.  And yes I do still plan on offering him for sale once he's completed.  :)

Say "aaahhhhhh"

I suupse these two go along with me not being able to stand the refining stage for long (the rearing Wixom falls into that stage).  Oh well.  First is the headless Have Blue from a while ago; she's sorta got a head going on now.  Just trying to fill in the basic shape.

Whew, and that's why they call 'em the ugly stages.  Ha!

Oh, and here's the ref I'm using, taken by one of my good friends.

And here's my other victim.  A clock horse by Breyer that's going to be getting his teeth done.  I always wanted to do a model with the mouth opener and the dentist checking out the teeth (hand in mouth).  Maybe that's just me...  But this guy is all prepared for a Brenda Breyer to stick her hand in.  XD  Lol

He needs lots of work still.

Orange you glad

I always get so nervous when I'm pastelling a model. They go through so many phases of ugly before they look even semi decent. And even then, they still look pretty fugly until you finish. I started pastelling one of the working girls from a few days ago not really thinking on what my end color was going to be and without a ref. Real smart. Those first few layers I know are going to look washed out, so it doesn't bother me.
Photobucket

More layers and we get kind of streaky, also mostly normal.
Photobucket

Then you get some colors that makes your eyes burn.  (and don't you love my weird fish that's been making a cameo?)
Photobucket

And eventually end up with an orange pony! Ahh!
Photobucket

Lol. Well after some more layers, she's not as obnoxiously orange but still off.
Photobucket

I have to say that I love how I'm this far into putting color on her and still haven't decided what I want to do with her. With that color I'm thinking it's gonna have to be chestnut though. Maybe she'll be my paint horse. Let's hope I look up a pattern for that part at least.

Note to self.  Must invest in a proper photo booth...

Still Working...

Working Equitation that is! Haha. I've had this set for a little while already, but my computer, internet and camera decided that they would not work together. Bleh. But they finally cooperated so here are some photos! This set was made by Vicky Norris to fit my Alvaro resin. The detail is fantastic on it and it looks awesome on him! :D

Now I've just got to get Alvaro painted. I'm thinking this color but that could always change before I finish prepping and start painting him.

Working Working Working

What I wish I was doing!  Lol.  But I did get a couple of little ladies who are working quite nicely.  Sarah Rose Working Girls to be exact!  When I found out the edition was closing, I just had to get my hands on a few.  (Bad Heather, bad.)  I can not believe how much detail is packed into such a tiny piece!  And the color possibilities are endless.

I've got two general colors planned so far, an Appaloosa and a Paint horse. Not sure what to do exactly with them but I'm liking the possibilities. Now what to do for the last one.... Hmmm...

Oh, and you may notice that one of the ladies got a new hair do.  : )  She's going to be my appy.  Still needs a bit of refinement in the mane and tail, but overall I'm quite pleased.  She's looks so 'cowy' now.

I do plan on offering all three of them for sale once painted.

Time Flies

Phew, where does the time go.  Still the same old, same old only now with some extra time every weekend to visit friends and work on models together.  : )  I gotta get that girl a blog.  Lol.  Maybe I can post some of her stuff here.  I think you guys would be amused, I know I am.  Anywho, I've been getting in some good time on the rearing Wixom.  As in she doesn't have holes!  Haha.  She certainly entertains me and she still stands *mostly* of her own accord!  I'm just going to have to level the feet once she's completely done to make sure she's steady.  What a big, heavy girl she is now!

And now another project I jumped right into, ignoring my own advice of not starting another project until I actually finished one.  But selling some is the same thing right?  lol.  I found a picture a while ago that I absolutely fell in love with and knew I had to turn it into a model.  The PS TB was a perfect victim... errmm... match.  He went together so fast, I'd swear he was meant to be like this.  He still needs quite a bit of work, but I'm already dreaming of all the set ups I can use him in.  Now all I need is tack.

Progress

At least I hope that's what this is.  I've been quite busy for the past month and I've been sick for the past week, neither of those translate well into productivity.  Being snowed in?  Now that makes me productive!  I finally managed to reattach all the legs in such a way that I'm not itching to rip them off again.  Though now that the back legs feel right, the front ones seem off again.  Maybe they need to be lower....  I did a quick once over sanding and a layer of primer for the photos so she looks a little more cohesive.  At least I hope so.  More sanding and removing of mass from her hindquarters and a major overhaul on the offside hind leg need to be done (shape wise).  I think I'm ok to star doing some detailing/muscling/overall clean up work, but I really wish I could get her into the hands of some actual Pro's first for them to have a good look in person.  Unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon.  No shows in the general area in the near future.  Bah.  Time to let the pictures talk.

Again if anyone sees any glaring mistakes, please let me know.  Thanks!  :)

Chopin' up some fun

Well the muse came back with a vengance!  And she said it was time do be a little destructive.  XD  What else could I do but listen?  I decided to get that metal piece out of my Ruffian donation.  Now I just have to rebuild the hoof and sand, sand, sand.  I'm debating redoing the mane and tail as it's supposed to be a portrait of the late Eight Bells and she did not have that much hair.  I'm definately going to adjust the face to make it more feminine too.

I can not believe how big that rod was!

And Blue got beheaded.  He's going to get a brand new lowered head an neck and so body tweaking.  That's about as far as I 've thought this out though.  Lol

Ok muse, now we need to go on to not so destructive things.  I've got enough bodies around, I need some finished ones!
