Still prepping away, although going slower now. Cold weather makes me want to sleep and do nothing, but I did manage to get some more details done on Nightmare. She has some enhanced hoofers! </div>

In one of her feet I hit a wire, so that has to be ground down before I can resculpt that foot. Then I can throw another layer of primer on and hopefully call her done. </div>

This guy needs his own song, I don't know how many times his legs have been on and off and on and off and.... Oh well. Currently I'm debating scale, he's just on the edge of needing to be chopped up and scaled up. I think once I actually start adding muscles and details I will have too for sure, but until then I'll just keep moving limbs. And maybe give him some eye balls. He's kinda creepy at the moment. </div>

A couple of them are nice and straight forward, sand, fill, prime; no extra work needed. A number of them I have plans for some small changes, new mane, tail, small profile or ear changes. And one or two are getting a pretty major overhaul because, well, why not! <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One of the biggest guys I've got here also turned out to be one of the easiest to prep, Morgen Kilbourn's Quartermeister. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4jY1C5gEgONKJ7ZjrqZ2C7_nK9oPNV60C55e8URFYpbDk8QH6LG-ig5XCi11cq6AIsUJ5_TSI5nF5CaQrRUnUiRifg5-Va57slhFETQ6U8Vs94qnswC4_8287WCkEFhX0bNUrxf4jml7q/s640/blogger-image-452243229.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4jY1C5gEgONKJ7ZjrqZ2C7_nK9oPNV60C55e8URFYpbDk8QH6LG-ig5XCi11cq6AIsUJ5_TSI5nF5CaQrRUnUiRifg5-Va57slhFETQ6U8Vs94qnswC4_8287WCkEFhX0bNUrxf4jml7q/s400/blogger-image-452243229.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He was all set to get a layer of primer today, but I couldn't help but think how nice he would look all braided up like a proper dressage horse. Now, I have two possible colors picked out for him (ok, more like four, ha). One a dark dapple grey with light/white mane and tail, sort of like this filly.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.bitsandbytesfarm.com/newz/wp-content/gallery/chillie-20130811/chillie_20130808_006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://www.bitsandbytesfarm.com/newz/wp-content/gallery/chillie-20130811/chillie_20130808_006.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">so pretty</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The second being a lighter dappled grey with flea bites, like Unbridled's Song here. Not sure on light or dark mane and tail. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.whitehorseproductions.com/images/TBcolor/unbridleds_song4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.whitehorseproductions.com/images/TBcolor/unbridleds_song4.jpg" height="303" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, I can also see him in black with minimal chrome.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.stallionsonline.co.uk/image_from_db.php?id=50066&name=image_1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://www.stallionsonline.co.uk/image_from_db.php?id=50066&name=image_1" height="400" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">yep, perfect.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The current standing up mane would really highlight the white mane on the dark grey. But, it could look pretty with the braids too. So, I suppose it comes down to whether or not I want to add another horse to my braid list. Hmmm. In the mean time, I'll just keep prepping away. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've created a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BlackthorneStudios/">Facebook</a> page for the studio! I'm hoping that this will help me be more active by allowing me to post more random or in the moment things rather than feeling like I have to compose a (fairly) cohesive blog post. I know not everyone use Facebook, and I have no intention of isolating readers, so the blog will certainly not be abandoned! <br />
<br />
As far as actual work goes, I'm beginning to prep up a storm and trying to narrow in on color choices for everything I plan on painting. Eventually. <br />
<br />
Today I worked on Kitty Cantrell's Nightmare, mostly finishing the prepping and getting a layer of primer on. Nowadays I only really prime my pieces in gray or red depending on what color they are going to be painted. Nightmare here will end up mostly black.<br />
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZVHsnK9s-YWBEV1HPlWy99GFAqe8m10EnRbMoL_nBYYPFblNhflWWM6JdQjTGHgrSy1nAwIyTB9v7oXgVwW2acP32m0FWySoMyDTNH6sNATfa3z5lxHKNVZ7mgQTZrGgKtW6bZHaW7Dlc/s640/blogger-image-953595770.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZVHsnK9s-YWBEV1HPlWy99GFAqe8m10EnRbMoL_nBYYPFblNhflWWM6JdQjTGHgrSy1nAwIyTB9v7oXgVwW2acP32m0FWySoMyDTNH6sNATfa3z5lxHKNVZ7mgQTZrGgKtW6bZHaW7Dlc/s640/blogger-image-953595770.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
She is such a cool resin. I love the fantasy horses, even if I never plan on getting them in the show ring. I've got a special idea in mind for this piece, but we'll see if I can pull it off. It is way outside my knowledge as a painter. Should be fun!</div>

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Let's give this another go because exciting things are in the future!</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2015 was a rough year for me, but I'm working towards making 2016 better. So in that vein, I'm going to do something very unusual for me. I am not the kind of person to make resolutions, but I am going to aim to update this blog a minimum of once a month. Yes, the bar is set very (very) low, but if I succeed that will be 12 more blog posts than last year. Huzzah!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, it's time break out the paintbrushes and carbide scrapers, fire up the heat gun, and pick up the dremel (and maybe even dig into some clay!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>

Shifu approves! </div>

Just a <i>tiny</i> bit left to do on him, then I can get him prepped and primed. He will most likely be fore sale unpainted as I have nowhere good to paint at the moment. So look for him on <a href="http://www.modelhorsesalespages.com/">MHSP</a> in, say, another 3 months. HAHAHA, maybe I can find some magic and get him up by the end of September. No one hold me to that! Good things take (a ridiculous amount of) time (around here). <b>;)</b><br />

It's tomorrow right? :D<br />
<br />
Here is my second victim....err...project! Same as the first guy from <a href="http://blackthornestudios.blogspot.com/2013/04/two-transformations-part-1.html">yesterday's</a> (ish) post, he was also originally for <a href="http://www.modelhorseblab.com/">Blab's</a> stablemate custom challenge. He is currently even <em>less</em> done than the other!<br />
<br />
He started life as a red roan...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqi-Kxc6bbVAt5NIQyhR3OsZknTeuUSuGOWXAFtQLKM2wmF_yiAGesDMErZBvt_7rdsazNP5NyoVIF7L1Mp5EVFDLC1QrCOD-IoWCpuhqJsXPuNZlwpAULokYQLNYtk7z4_z_rlXgkuCqD/s1600/IMG_1022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqi-Kxc6bbVAt5NIQyhR3OsZknTeuUSuGOWXAFtQLKM2wmF_yiAGesDMErZBvt_7rdsazNP5NyoVIF7L1Mp5EVFDLC1QrCOD-IoWCpuhqJsXPuNZlwpAULokYQLNYtk7z4_z_rlXgkuCqD/s400/IMG_1022.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
So <em>lots</em> of work left to be done on this guy. Finishing the neck, adding muscles to the shoulders and haunches, legs (only semi important right?), he will be getting a totally new face, ears, mane and tail- braided of course, and then he'll be topped off in a luscious bay with a little bit of chrome. The perfect A rated 4-foot hunter.<br />

These two pieces were supposed to be for <a href="http://www.modelhorseblab.com/">Blab's</a> Stablemate Custom Challenge, but with the end days away there is no way they are getting finished in time. So now I can show them! Yay!<br />
<br />
The challenge was to start with a selected mold, this time Breyer's G3 Cantering Warmblood, and make it into something else. This could be with just a paint job, a simple custom (just mane and tail changes), drastic custom (anything beyond many and tail) or a fantasy piece (divided into repaint and custom). And there were two categories amateur and professional. I don't know what I would have gone into. <br />
<br />
Regardless, I started with just the one piece and he had no idea what was coming.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSB-ZH_YSSOQd3EFetS2WOdFUO0FbSCQofosXx9_KHQb2KESIZqjjDspLsoqIq3abeuLv_QNeZpz8lEpe2m3qDenhm4Q1dl6KxR5bUlFrJoP45d3JltFMtaguBVWXe6iNNxTEFemT2-QcJ/s1600/IMG_0982.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSB-ZH_YSSOQd3EFetS2WOdFUO0FbSCQofosXx9_KHQb2KESIZqjjDspLsoqIq3abeuLv_QNeZpz8lEpe2m3qDenhm4Q1dl6KxR5bUlFrJoP45d3JltFMtaguBVWXe6iNNxTEFemT2-QcJ/s400/IMG_0982.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Ok, time to put some muscle back on! This is where he is at right now. He still needs his legs to be finished, chest muscles added, the right haunch is going to be resculpted, feets, face, ears, details, wrinkles, mane, tail, ears.... And to top it off more sanding!<br />

I haven't decided on a color yet. He is definitely going to be fore sale once completed, so I might offer him unpainted too. I'm going to give the second guy his own post as this one has gotten very long! Until tomorrow!<br />

Even worse is having something to share and not being able to! For the past two months I've been working on one, then two stablemates for Blab's SM custom challenge. Part of the rules is no sharing of photos allowed! I got my mojo back and I couldn't do what I like most, post it everywhere! Haha! Just over one month more until the deadline, so I'll be able to post them after that. Whether I finish them in time, ehhh, that's another story.<br />
<br />
But in the mean time I've just started using the time waiting for my stablemates to dry to work on other projects. I purchased a <a href="http://www.equineresindirectory.com/showresin.asp?resinid=3260">Phoenix</a> around Christmas since I had some cash and she was cheap. And I loved her so much that I got another one recently.<br />
<br />
The first one is getting new ears, straighter profile, braided mane and tail, fixed neck muscles, small eye changes, shoes removed, flatter cheeks and bigger cheek bones, tucked head, longer withers, and a bunch of other small changes. I <em>really</em> want to get onto the mane and tail, but those are for last.<br />
<br />

<br /><br />
The second is getting a much smaller makeover. Straighter profile, fixed neck muscles, eye changes, longer withers,and possibly a banded mane and new ears too. She is most likely going to be for sale once completed, painted or unpainted I'm not sure. I have a ton of colors I would love to see her in, but painting will add more time to how long I need to spend on her.<br />

<br />
<br />
Back in August, I essentially left the hobby to focus on my real horse instead. Riding, training and teaching is what I want to be my life, my profession. The hours I spent trying to work on customs was time I could spend bettering my riding and training techniques.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Poor video still frame of us clearing 3'6"</td></tr>

<br />
<br />
<br />
Things were going great for a few months. Beauty looked amazing, was fit as can be, soft and responsive.<br />
<br />
<br />
Then October 14th, it all fell apart. What was supposed to be a simple hack around the property turned into what would be one of the worst days for any horse owner.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Beauty fractured her pelvis.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So now I had a decision to make. One vet told me to put her down, there was nothing to be done. Another said she could get better, but of course there were no guarantees. I was prepared to put her down. Well, not really, but as prepared as I could be. I visited her everyday for a week, feeding her her favorite treats. She was obviously unhappy, hiding in the back of her stall and being non responsive. The day I was going to call the vet to set up <i>the</i> appointment, I visited her again. And it was like I had a new horses again. She was bright, happy. So I didn't do it. <br />
<br />
Now it's just a waiting game. Three months in and she's doing better than any one expected. She's walking better than expected, she's been approved for limited turnout, and is still bright and perky. The vet calls her a miracle horse. I'm still holding out that one day we'll be able to ride again.<br />
<br />
And no it isn't Christmas anymore, but these are the most recent <strike>torture</strike> pictures I have of her.<br />

<br />
So, now that I've got all this extra time that I'm not riding, the model horses have called me back again. My totting Wixom is getting a complete makeover starting with some eye balls.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgek7L3k9_udnPzN-ubElQkWIqVU12FAte-6VvXLIq7F8et-MZDTPiQcFml0OZqEwJshy35nlQE0B2lT-6pj0ClHbiGsAnlu9jqEWrZr26rzbXrsCbUymwv5J0wZK1vM2xQQk8TdhZqzIUQ/s1600/IMG_0923.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgek7L3k9_udnPzN-ubElQkWIqVU12FAte-6VvXLIq7F8et-MZDTPiQcFml0OZqEwJshy35nlQE0B2lT-6pj0ClHbiGsAnlu9jqEWrZr26rzbXrsCbUymwv5J0wZK1vM2xQQk8TdhZqzIUQ/s400/IMG_0923.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
And I purchased a Phoenix during Seunta's Christmas sale. She is really lovely in person! I intended to braid her up and sell her unpainted, but she is so pretty I'm not sure I want her to leave now. My only question is whether I braid her tail or not. I know that Quarter Horses typically leave the tails loose, but I have seen a few braided all around at Congress sooo...<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
So, like everything in my life, I am and will forever continue to be all over the place.<br />

<br />
I've been prepping my two Kilbourn resins in between working on my Vtoo custom and thankfully they are all just kind of breezing along. I wish I had more time in a day to work on them!<br />
<br />
Vtoo is getting a few minor tweaks along with her (soon to be his) new headset. I originally planned on making him into a show jumping stallion with the braided mane, loose forelock and loose tail. Of course after watching the eventing during the Olympics now I see him locked onto a cross country fence! So that would mean a loose mane and a pulled tail. I can't decide which one I should do! Decisions decisions. I still have a lot of work to do on the neck to match Sarah's sculpting style, so I guess I should really just start there.<br />

I think I'm ready to pick up the models again and start working. Debated selling them all for a little while, but now I'm glad I didn't. Time for some stablemates!<br />
<br />
Of course, me being me, I can't make anything easy. Instead I have 6 standalone SMs planned and a major scene involving another 7 SMs that will all be getting drastic custom work done to them. The 6 individual ones won't be done until after Breyerfest, which is probably a good thing, and the other 7 are a looooong term project I'll be working on in between. Hopefully.<br />
<br />
This guy I <a href="http://blackthornestudios.blogspot.com/2011/08/plans-for-quickie.html">started</a> a long time ago but recently pick him up again since I enjoy working with the Magic Sculp(t) so much. Well now he's finally got a tail and a base for a mane! I still have some small fiddly bits left after I finish the mane, but I definitely think he is going to be done first. I haven't decided if I'm going to paint him up like my reference photo of sell him unpainted yet. I'm also pretty certain that he's going to have a base to keep him upright, but I have also been considering a peg for the back foot. Hmmmm.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPBoamlDf7YHoCgegZUHctSrhjojuKBJH9CdEkTv5kvuNiS1wyzQT0dBER7oyr8NA6O5l7AQk7ycQdXM52GCsV1vypk5YJuxlfVfPdpSB07mh36ERLSA2VQ5t3GnzJ9chdyvbt6Ftaw_FT/s1600/IMG_2778.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="286" rca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPBoamlDf7YHoCgegZUHctSrhjojuKBJH9CdEkTv5kvuNiS1wyzQT0dBER7oyr8NA6O5l7AQk7ycQdXM52GCsV1vypk5YJuxlfVfPdpSB07mh36ERLSA2VQ5t3GnzJ9chdyvbt6Ftaw_FT/s400/IMG_2778.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I still need to smooth the tips of the tail so they aren't so chunky. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm17-NtU0XqvPRaYjz4cCgjQZbQw4mW5947Z2ne_XVAu1Lx4PQBSHyw3J_lVvodgCyNFUPAhdmNvYtz097q-si_mvzMtjc_6tXsCRASioAPL1IHShV63F75EUOR7655zOyrw_iq6x1uVi_/s1600/IMG_2779.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" rca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm17-NtU0XqvPRaYjz4cCgjQZbQw4mW5947Z2ne_XVAu1Lx4PQBSHyw3J_lVvodgCyNFUPAhdmNvYtz097q-si_mvzMtjc_6tXsCRASioAPL1IHShV63F75EUOR7655zOyrw_iq6x1uVi_/s400/IMG_2779.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
Then I've got 2 Morgans planned. A <a href="http://identifyyourbreyer.com/identify/Stablemate/ASB.htm">G2 Saddlebred</a> to a parked Morgan ala Stand And Deliver.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5mYJ5OYcKVXF6BhvBLsokTQtlQyzpeuF9JbLel9PyQPSuESfE4g-7U5gBL-pvfPAP_cJJd9H_do0rQx-J6ymOxI985qT_Qx4Dz_wjHXQRcnnrPXIfPY2pArJTqX_9qQ035CpzaH5WN4n3/s1600/1+Morgan_horse_all_parked_out.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="323" rca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5mYJ5OYcKVXF6BhvBLsokTQtlQyzpeuF9JbLel9PyQPSuESfE4g-7U5gBL-pvfPAP_cJJd9H_do0rQx-J6ymOxI985qT_Qx4Dz_wjHXQRcnnrPXIfPY2pArJTqX_9qQ035CpzaH5WN4n3/s400/1+Morgan_horse_all_parked_out.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The other is a <a href="http://identifyyourbreyer.com/identify/Stablemate/Morgan.htm">G2 Morgan</a> to a park horse. I need to do more research on what is considered 'correct' for a park Morgan trot. I <em>think</em> I need to find a horse in a more square trot.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU3L9zf36Vx75Lz39ELPzoIHQsXm5hLRhrbz8jSPr_cYCGBBt0wsppevfvszB31sTwy-PfQg4MlUtv8Uz_YyhahPqB0xD3dQeXntABVHtrxqSg0vZ5dQu1vE7YGhZ1-3r83Rfeq6WBXL8h/s1600/1171_6061_6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="313" rca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU3L9zf36Vx75Lz39ELPzoIHQsXm5hLRhrbz8jSPr_cYCGBBt0wsppevfvszB31sTwy-PfQg4MlUtv8Uz_YyhahPqB0xD3dQeXntABVHtrxqSg0vZ5dQu1vE7YGhZ1-3r83Rfeq6WBXL8h/s400/1171_6061_6.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Also Stand And Deliver! </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
As if those weren't enough, I also have a <a href="http://identifyyourbreyer.com/identify/Stablemate/ArabRear.htm">G2 rearing arabian</a> who is getting a new M/T and some minor body tweaks, and a <a href="http://identifyyourbreyer.com/identify/Stablemate/Mule.htm">G2 Mule</a> and a <a href="http://identifyyourbreyer.com/identify/Stablemate/Friesian.htm">G3 Friesian</a> that I'm not really sure what to do with yet! I'm aiming for nothing too terribly drastic with these as I wouldl like to finish them! Ha!<br />
<br />
The other 7 I have planned out already, all the way down to colors! But I'm not going to say anything else about those until I've started work on them. ;)<br />
<br />
<br />
Also, my camera is in the mail! Squee!!! XDHeatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00485412849079572567noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8013727623377308713.post-43760330352994114912012-06-19T02:23:00.001-04:002012-06-19T02:23:51.640-04:00Best Laid PlansYes I'm back to being inconsistent about the capital letters in my title posts. Shh.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Despite my good intentions, nothing went according to plan since my last post.<br />
<br />
<br />
Migraine that kept me mostly in bed for over a week and did not respond to medication? Check.<br />
<br />
Computer deciding to have multiple conniptions and multiple blue screens of death? Check.<br />
<br />
Horse deciding I've had it too good for the past 10 years and come up lame? Check.<br />
<br />
Terrang not receiving a single offer? Check.<br />
<br />
<br />
Good gravy, somebody throw me a bone here!<br />
<br />
<br />
At least I have a new toy coming my way to make up for my week or so of suck.<br />

Sheesh! Yes, I've finally, really finished my Terrang custom. There is still more that I would <em>like</em> to do to him, but sometimes you just have to say enough is enough and move on to new things.<br />
<br />
So! My little bugger is going up for offers on <a href="http://www.modelhorsesalespages.com/view.asp?id=936443">MHSP</a> until Saturday June 16th, midnight EST. I can't tell you how excited I am for him to leave! Now for the fun part, pictures!<br />

I should really move on to finishing painting up my sales piece Smittyn. Now where in my room are my paints again...Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00485412849079572567noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8013727623377308713.post-15720969181591625252012-06-10T00:32:00.001-04:002012-06-19T02:25:15.086-04:00All you need is a little bit of magic..Once again I blame the <a href="http://modelhorseblab.com/">Blabbers</a>. I've fought with the other self hardening sculpts that most customizers use and generally had a dismal time trying to create anything. Which is why I have not completed a piece in years. Chopping is easy and fun, arguing with epoxy is not. So, based on multiple good reviews for Magic Sculp(t) combined with actually seeing some of the results of first time users, I caved and bought some.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
And the world rejoiced, for it was AWESOME. What would have taken me days of sculpting, drying, removing, and repeating with my other sculpts took one sitting with Magic Sculp(t). Once I stopped trying to work it like Apoxie Sculpt, I was off and flying. I am completely floored by how easy it is to use and <i>highly</i> recommend it!<br />

In two sittings I managed to just about finish my jumpers tush, allowing time for one side to dry so I wouldn't squish it while working on the other. I'm good like that. No I don't have a pic of the other side sadly. I just can not get my lighting and camera to cooperate. I can actually see me finishing this guy within the year now. Maybe. It's only been five years or so since I started him.<br />
<br />
And while waiting for him to dry I played around with more tail ideas in photoshop. I think this was my favorite so far after my initial posting. Who knows what I'm going to go with, I still have so much to do on the rest of him before really thinking on hair! Of course, I also need to decide still if he will end up as an OOAK custom or if I still want to go ahead with a resin run. Hrrmmm.<br />

Redlines can be a great tool to help you actually see exactly what needs to be changed if you do them yourself. Having someone else redline your work can also help find problems that you didn't even notice! </div>Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00485412849079572567noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8013727623377308713.post-48319638633954880692012-05-24T00:44:00.001-04:002012-06-19T02:25:45.882-04:00Tack Time!Every time I get a new horse in the mail there is something I do everytime, after unwrapping and drooling over them for a while. Tack 'em up!<br />
<br />
Today I got my <a href="http://www.artbymorgen.com/maxixe.htm">Maxixe De Barrios</a> by <a href="http://www.artbymorgen.com/">Morgen Kilbourn</a> in the mail. I reaaaallly shouldn't have been purchasing any model horse related items but this guy is one of only a handful of releases this year that I'm allowing myself. Hopefully the other piece I really am looking foward to doesn't get released for a while yet! <br />
<br />
Being me, Max's first tack up was in my beautiful english set by <a href="http://braymere.blogspot.com/">Jennifer Buxton</a>. I love this set so much it's ridiculous.<br />

Besides my menagerie of <a href="http://blackthornestudios.blogspot.com/2012/05/herd-of-galloping-ponies.html">Vtoo's</a> and their various planned changes, Ahzam is going to be getting a chin reconstruction<strike> and possibly some bigger legs if I'm feeling super ambitious</strike>.<br />

<br />
I've also got two resins here that are going to be getting some work done (yes, like I needed <em>more</em> projects). Firstly a Johann by the uber talented <a href="http://www.artbymorgen.com/index.htm">Morgen Kilbourn</a>. I was luck enough to win him in her treasure hunt she had last year and I've been waiting for him to speak to me ever since. <br />

I <em>think</em> he's finally whispered that he wants to be a Kentucky Mountain Horse. Only one little problem, the KMHs have teeniest little feet. Johann has got these giant gravel stompers! Time for a foot reduction!<br />

Lastly is a <a href="http://www.kittycantrell.com/">Kitty Cantrell</a> Romance resin I got for a ridiculously awesome price a number of months back. She apparently had won a number of NAN cards in her day but now her paint job is very dated and her prep job leaves a bit to be desired. She's also got two previously repaired broken legs (one of which rebroke in shipping). So she is going to get a bit chop shopped. O:) </div>

<br />
New mane, tail, forelock, slightly lowered neck, closed mouth plus other facil modifications, all four legs moved to a bigger trot plus somehow getting her off the ground, probably a little but more tummy put on her to be less racing fit, and possibly a little bit of a reduction on her engine. Whew! Of course this is all hopefully what will get done. She needs to get stripped first and then I'll go from there.<br />
<br />
<br />
Seriously someone needs to betate me everyday if I'm not actually working on <em>something</em>. I have all of these models I have plans for and some drawing that I should do too but nothing gets done. Blargh.<br />

<br />
So how about a conga* of unpainted VToo's instead?<br />

The VToo seconds didn't come with bases so I get to play around with how to stand those up. That should be fun. XD I would <em>reeeeeeeaaaaaalllly</em> like to cut and resculpt one to be traveling straight but that would take a ton of work. I'll probably end up doing it anyway.<br />

So! I have the one I've already prepared for a new mane and tail. The other one from the run is going to stay as is, I just need to pick a color. And possibly a painter so it gets done sometime this millenia. considering placing a back foot on the ground for one of the other seconds plus a new tail, possibly new mane also. And a new face. And the drastic custom. And then I still have one victim left.....<br />
